"Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."
Matthew 5:3
The Lord spoke to me to read this passage. I have read it four times in the last two weeks and have been meditating on the words and the heart that Jesus was trying to portray to his disciples. This verse alone speaks volumes about where we should be with the Father and how much we should be in need of Him.
Jesus is speaking to His disciples about what it looks like to be blessed. This verse is the one He begins with. I believe what Jesus is saying here when He says, "poor in spirit", is not what most walk out in. I don't think that Jesus is talking about the human meaning of being poor, where we drop everything that He has blessed us with and live on the streets. Or, is He speaking of a false sense of humility. Humility happens when we realize the bigness of God and He humbles, not oneself.
I believe when Jesus says "poor in spirit", He is talking about the need of the love, appreciation and identity that the Father is speaking to us. When we become contempt with where we are with the Lord then we become lacking in our lives of God. We are drinking old wines from old wine skins. He is the eternal God who knows no end and sees all ends. He is the filler and the emptier of all things. He is the beginning and the ender. He loves His people(everyone) and destroys His enemy. He is the creator of all things and the creator of me and you. How can we possibly become contempt with where we are with this INFINITE GOD?!?!?!? He forever fills those who forever ask. He is a loving Father that wants His children in their rightful places in His kingdom. He wants to walk with us in every day situations whether great or terrible. He wants us to experience the wonders of His mighty love and power. THAT is the kingdom of heaven! The love and power of Jesus Christ! He is continually pouring out His never ending love that always changes our lives and yet we have the audacity to say we are full or wealthy in what He has already given us.
Let us move from the place of drinking old wine in old wine skins and move to the place of abundance where there are rivers of wine and fresh skins to fill. Let us never be contempt with the Lord and always remember that He wants us to dive deeper into intimacy and deeper into LOVE. The Father is waiting with His arms wide open for His beloved children to collapse into. The kingdom of heaven is waiting for the poor in spirit to cry out Abba Father!!!
We are sons and daughters of the Most High God and let us remember that the King's house, where there is an abundance of His Love and Glory, is ours if only we ask.
